Susanna Kim of ABC News has written a sad, sorry story about former NFL sensation Terrell Owens.

Terrell Owens was despised by almost every fan of every team on which he did not play and by many on the teams on which he did. He was seen as selfish, self-centered, a Prima Donna. In San Francisco and Dallas, he was ultimately perceived as a team cancer. In Buffalo and Cincinnati, he was mostly a non-factor.

But Owens was bright. He was innovative. He was a showman. From dancing on the midfield star in Texas Stadium to hauling out a sharpie and signing a football after scoring a touchdown, Owens incensed the opposition and entertained the masses.

Owens possesses an infectious smile and a quick wit. He is also a special, Hall of Fame–caliber talent. He has all the traits that could have made him beloved by all.

All but one.

Owens never bought into the notion that there is no “I” in team. He always figured the best thing for whatever team he was on was for him to be the focus of the offense and the center of attention.

On the sidelines during one Dallas Cowboys game, Owens was captured screaming, “I love me some me!”

And he did love him some him, but apparently few others do these days.

Kim opens her articleTerrell Owens, the former NFL star receiver who has signed to play for and co-own an indoor football team, is friendless and nearly broke, he told GQ magazine. “I’m in hell,” Owens, 38, said he tells people who ask about his well-being.

Hardly the picture of a man reaping the rewards of an NFL career that garnered him a reported 80 million dollars in earnings.

Hardly the expected testimony of the man who once said, “Getcha popcorn ready, because it’s gonna be a show.”

Kim concludes her article, “I don’t have no friends,” [Owens] told GQ. ”I don’t want no friends. That’s how I feel.”

The sadness of this man is palpable. What a tragedy!

Did you ever hear the term “Good-Time Charlie?”

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a “good-time Charlie” as  a happy-go-lucky convivial man given to fun making, hilarity, and the general pursuit of amusement.

Terrell Owens was the NFL’s most colorful Good-Time Charlie. And what is wrong with that, really? There is nothing wrong with enjoying the ride.

Get ready. Here comes my analysis.

Someone has to be the life of the party and if you are that person to whom others naturally gravitate, more power to you. You make them laugh. You make them cry. You leave them wanting more. They all want to be you.

Cool.

But be careful, shining star, of listening too closely to the accolades. Be careful of making yourself the focal point of your own attentions. The crowd is fickle and glory fleeting. When the lights go out and the party ends, it will be those people you loved, those people in whom you invested, those people you made feel important that remain.

Be careful how you party, party hound.

Or, you may end up a party of one in a forsaken dive Owens called “Hell.”

Gene has been an avid Dallas Cowboys fan for nearly five decades, which amounts to just about his entire life. The only time he was not a Cowboys fan was that brief period at the beginning of his life, when he didn't have all his baby teeth and could not yet say "Cowboys." As soon as quit slobbering, he started hollering, "Go Cowboys!"

The epitome of what goes around comes around. On the field, Terrell Owens was a guy who would rather have (10 catches, for 188 yards, 2 TDs) and lose, rather than have (2 catches, for 27 yards, NO TDs) and win. Yelling at his coaches and teamates, blaming other people, and even calling out his QBs in front of the media; saying that Donovan McNabb wore down and got tired in the Super Bowl, and even questioning Jeff Garcia's sexual orientation....unacceptable!! Owens has given an entire nation of NFL loving fans all that they need to be convinced; He is a selfish, egotistical, and unprofessional 1st class jerk! Now he has no friends.....awwwe. Maybe he can make a Facebook Profile, and put himself as his one and only friend.

T.O. was a first class jerk wherever he went. Some people never learn.

The 0:49 mark says it all... look at the reaction of his 49er teamate to TO's "me-me-me soak it all in no one else matters" touchdown celebration

What goes around comes around! Broke and friendless. Couldn't happen to a more self indulgent, self centered egotist whose only talent in life was catching a football. Enjoy T.O! You earned it!

TO is the best receiver of all time? Now that is hilarious. The famous 'catch' vs GBY in '98 playoffs really sums him up. He did make that one big catch. Howver, he basically sucked a lot of that game, and would have been the #1 goat if SF had lost. Thanks to a horrible blown call in the final minute, he redeemed himself

You forgot about him being a cancer in Philly as well.

I believe he was 'throwing' games his last few years. That's why no one will have him. They just won't say it.

Well you said " I love me some me" now you have all the time in the world to be with yourself. He failed to realize that he wouldnt be young forever. Now that the media is not bowing at his feet he does not know what to do with himself. He turned his back on the NFL organizations now he has to live with the NFL turning its back on him. Its over buddy! Maybe if you knew how to treat people you could have a broadcasting Job but I guess they dont want you on the set because you will ruin that as well.

TO you are a dumb ass how can you spend 80 million dollars and not have a back up plan, I don't feel sorry for you at all what a waste of pure talent lost for ever. You should learn how not to talk so much bull and focus on your talent what a shame.

Crash

Too true, when it's over, the people that you made to feel important, liked and loved will be there for you. If you are all about you, then you get you. Simple enough.

Wow. $80 million. Even if you figure close to 50% in taxes, still, $40 mil since he was about 22, in 16 years he has spent $2.5 mil per year and has nothing. The NFL schools players, especially rookies, in handling money, tells 'em how important it is to handle professionals and to make sure the keep some money for a rainy day. Guess T.O. didn't listen to them either, eh?

The guy had awesome talent.. but it was squanderd by ego. I mean the man when at 49ers had the balls to ignore advice by the all time greatest reciever/player..Jerry Rice... sad because he was immesley talented.

You didnt shine so much with any other Team besides the Championship 49ers. Your ego makes you an ASS!!!!!!!!

T.O. wake up ...the ride is and has been over for some time...you were stupid enough to impregnate all those women without one iota of conscience for the effects it would later have on your life.Well you got what you asked for and don't cry to us about your "HARD TIME" listen buster i played sports in highscool, was just average for college so chose the military instead...had a family and worked my azz off to support them all...now at 50 i'm finally in college. You have had priviledge and fame and squandered it all...do you think i give a rat's azz about you blowing your money fool?If you can't shut your mouth ,keep your ego in check, and also keep it in your pants you will find no sympathy around here dumbazz...goodbye T.O. maybe you will become a man and learn from all this.

Owens deserve to be an outcast because for years he disregarded the team concept and thought he was the focus of the team and the organization. I've seen many selfish players come and go, but Owens was by far the worst. He really does deserve to be a party of one. Now it's time to get our popcorn ready to watch you totally embarrass yourself in the IFL.

to probably has some kind of chemical inbalance in his head he is the biggest media whore in the last decade from any sport and he's antics show that the guy never matured after the age of 11. the "HELL" u say ur in has been made by u and u alone and ur the guy who is keeping u there. u had every chance in the world , heck WAY more than the average american gets, u should be loaded, but ur not cause ur a total idiot, u act like a 15 year old girl who just figured out that all ur friends and the guys r all done with ur bs so throw another log on the drama fire, wouldnt be surprised to see u ate a bunch of pills to "attempt" suicide again, but no ones gonna come hold u and say poor t.o. so u should probably skip it. u had it all but u lost it because ur a complete idiot ur a stain on the crotch of society. and ur hell isnt anything compaired to everyone elses problems so just shut the hell up and go to work be it football or burger king i dont care which, just shut up go to work and act like a grown up. if u wanna play pity party then go see a doctor dont cry to america anymore no one cares bud, we got real sh!+ to worry bout

T. O. was and will always be a star athlete. He is no different a showman than Dion Sanders, Broadway Joe, Shaq, Rodman, we love these guys. It is a shame that some people choose to run them in the dirt, just because they can write a few articles in a sports rag. I say meet in the ring sports writers and say what you have to say to the person your trying to destroy to their face- like eye to eye. There would never be another bad press wrote about anyone because even most of the women athletes can kick the hell out of the average sports writer.

here we go again. the guy burned his own bridges and we are supposed to feel sorry for him? not in this lifetime. susanna kim has wasted space talking about a nobody when she should have used it to promote something good or something newsworthy about an athlete. c'mon, susanna, as a journalist with an opinion, you could at least do us, the people who read this stuff, a favor and write about something somebody cares about.

Given the 2 "suicide/overdose episodes in addition to all the behavior T.O. sounds like someone with Borderline Personality Disorder. Deep down he hates himself and feels worthy of nothing. He feels that others hate him and then behaves in ways that makes this a self-fulfilling prophecy. He really doesn't see whats wrong with his behavior because it feels appropriate to him at the time. He Really Truly doesn't see what's wrong. He doesn't see that it him who is destroying his life not others. It's Always the other persons fault and he has to be without fault or he can't live with himself. He creates the chaos to distract himself from how bad he feels inside. No amount of money or success will help him feel better...quite the opposite. He needs to realize that he needs help and then get it. It's a very long and painful road.
