Sean Lee is the Bruce Lee of the Dallas Cowboys.
To hell with circumstances; I create opportunities. ~Bruce Lee
When Bruce Lee was alive, he was a force with which to be reckoned. Not only did he possess jaw-dropping physical skills and a larger-than-life screen presence (despite his slight build), he was intelligent, reflective, and quotable.
Sean Lee, thankfully, has not left us prematurely, but he has found himself on numerous occasions, dating back to college, sidelined by injury for long periods of time. When he is healthy, he is among the most cerebral and physically gifted linebackers in the NFL.
Sean Lee shines in Cowboys’ comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football
In last night’s dramatic 29-23 overtime win over the Eagles, Sean Lee shined. He recorded six solo tackles and five assists. He recorded multiple crucial third-down tackles short of the sticks to get his team the ball. One 0f those, he was in pass coverage. He brilliantly, instinctively retreated to the first down mark, forcing his man to break a hook pattern off short of the line to gain, then wrapped up the receiver and dropped him where he caught the pass. On another, he sliced through the offensive line on a delayed blitz to drop the running back in the backfield and stop a third-and-short conversion.
Without Lee’s savvy leadership and stellar play, it is unlikely the Cowboys’ struggling offense – which was under assault all game long by a blitzing defense brilliantly deployed by defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz – would have had the opportunity to close a double-digit fourth quarter deficit and force overtime.
A healthy Sean Lee is key to Cowboys 2016 success
With suspensions and suspect characters on the defensive side of the ball, not to mention injuries, the Dallas Cowboys need the leadership, example, and production Lee brings to the team. In seven games, Lee has recorded 42 tackles and 27 assists. He has never played in all 16 games in a Cowboys season. Should 2016 prove to be the year that he does, the dynamic offense may have just the defensive support they need to secure the suddenly revitalized and very tough NFC East and make a deep playoff run.
After the game, Lee gave a sideline interview. He was humble, articulate, elated, deflecting praise to his teammates…He was a leader. Like Bruce.
